Fight Against Council Tax

Scales of Justice

  • There has been a £1,000 increase in Council Tax in the last 10 years.
  • Families on fixed incomes struggle to pay
  • The government and councils refuse to accept that Council Tax has grown out of proportion to
    many incomes
  • Local authorities expect us to pay anything that is asked
  • The taxes set are not based on the ability to pay
  • Join others to campaign  and form petitions against this unfair tax and high Government spending.
  • Write to your MP or Councillor to insist upon a fairer system
  • Pay only for essential public services and not for tack-ons from other bodies
  • In the light of all the new-build dwellings which accrue an average £1,000 per dwelling per year,
why is Council Tax so high?

STATEMENT

Little attention has been paid to council tax by the major political parties, but the tax is unmanageable for many people. There is a mandatory compunction to pay, no right of redress and no apparent opposition to pay what is a very unpopular tax.

Sadly, all three major political parties deny the everyday concerns of citizens, preferring to deflect popular attention on to global issues. However, Citizens Advice Bureaux are full of people with debt-related worries and the main component of the debt is the cost of council tax.

Similarly, every political party refuses to acknowledge that Council Tax has become an easy source of revenue for local authorities. It is a situation in which the democratic voter has no choice because there is no political will to change. Furthermore, a great many local politicians are salaried through the tax, thus introducing a personal agenda into the promotion of Council Tax.

The F.A.C.T. Campaign encourages people to take action against Council Tax and help the citizens of this country find a fairer way of paying for services.
